In this fast-paced modern world, healthy snacking has become less of a choice and more of a necessity. With a variety of healthy food options filling the market aisles, this isn’t just a mere trend anymore, but is rapidly evolving into a new habit. Leading this revolution is Makhana (fox nuts), a traditional and humble superfood that has been rebranded without losing its roots.

In the modern market, Makhana has undergone a metamorphosis. From being plain and roasted, it now comes in bursts of flavours, ranging from peri-peri to caramel, finding its way into every handful. But what’s truly changed isn’t just limited to the flavours but also their presentation. Resealable pouches, pastel packs, and captivating designs, the modern Makhana looks as good as it tastes.

With Makhana basking in the spotlight, many brands are racing to perfect the balance of taste, health, and design, leaving consumers a little perplexed about which one to try. If you are one of them, don’t worry, for we are here to introduce you to the 10 top Makhana brands in India for 2025. But before we do that, let’s explore a little bit about the Makhana market in India, and the variants of Makhana that have become popular.

The Makhana Market Of India

Here’s a number to chew on. According to IMARC Group, the value of India’s Makhana market in 2024 was ₹8.5 billion, and it is projected to nearly double by 2033, growing at a CAGR of over 9%. This is a clear indication that the once-traditional food has turned into a serious business. However, this growth isn’t accidental; it reflects the changing consumer behaviour.

Makhana has evolved from a simple to a premium product, primarily due to changing lifestyle trends, rising health awareness, and effective branding strategies. Makhana fits effortlessly into any diet; it’s naturally gluten-free, rich in protein, and low in calories. Beyond nutrition, with the way it is flavoured, packaged, and positioned, it now has an appeal. Depending on the brand, the design language conveys fun, tradition, sophistication and convenience, making it equally suitable as a part of a luxury gift box as for a mid-day snack.

Makhana Brands We Created

Wlue’s Makhana

wlue's

Since marketing is no longer just about the stuff you make, but the stories you tell, we reimagined Wlue’s Makhana as more than just another healthy snack. The very aim was to break Makhana out of its ‘only healthy snack’ stereotype and position it as a bold, everyday munch that would fit effortlessly into Gen Z’s lifestyle. On the other hand, the conundrum was shifting the market perception, standing out in a cluttered snacking space, and engaging an audience that thrives on “X-factor.”

We, therefore, created a playful brand identity with bright and colourful packaging design with a retro superhero feel. The logo with a star integrated in it establishes that the brand is synonymous with victory and is meant for winners. It not only gave the brand its own story but also enhanced its shelf impact. The results achieved didn’t just transform Wlue’s into a recognisable, trend-forward brand, but also proved that good design doesn’t just sell products; it builds cultural relevance.

Bhumiik Makhana

bhumiik

For Bhumiik, we created a holistic brand identity, carried out a complete company profiling and designed the packaging for all three raw Makhana variants. The brand identity and packaging design we created for them reflect their values of tradition and authenticity, and position it as a premium brand rooted in heritage. In addition, we also designed their UI and developed their website, which once again highlights their traditional and cultural roots.

Deep Root Makhana

Deep Root

For Deep Root, we planned a premium and modern brand design to appeal to its target audience in India, Europe and Dubai. Accordingly, we created a modern logo that reflected nature, purity and its brand ethos ‘rooted in tradition and culture’. We designed their UI/UX and developed their website as per their brand identity. Additionally, we also carried out a photoshoot of their products to be used on their official website and other e-commerce platforms.

Rosnax Makhana

rosnax

A subsidiary of Krishna Foods, Rosnax is a traditional Makhana brand from Bihar. The values of the brand are intricately tied to the state, which also happens to be the abode of Makhana. So, to express these values, we designed a packaging that felt premium yet deeply rooted in tradition. Each detail in the packaging tells more about the brand and the state it comes from. There are visuals of lotus, heritage structures, the state map and a scenic image of a village in the background, all bringing together what the brand stands for.

Apart from designing its packaging, we also designed and developed its UI/UX and website and created its stationery material and A+ content for platforms like Amazon.
